How to make Five Spice Egg and Pork Stew

Are you ready to explore the dish with me?  This dish is very simple and easy to do. It just take a little bit of time.  Don’t be panic. I will tell you step by step.  There’s just one thing that you need to know.  Normally, I don’t measure ingredients or sauce. So I everything goest with my gut.  No worries, I will guide you with my estimation.  And then you can adjust to the taste you like.

Let’s do it!

1. Prepared peeled hard boiled eggs.  Simple? Yes! Need more direction? Check this link

2. Mix Sweet Soy Sauce (~3 TBSP) with granulated sugar (~1. 1/2 TBSP) and pour the mixture over the peeled hard boiled eggs (8).  Leave it for 4-5 hours or overnight.  Constantly stir it, make sure sauce mixture cover the whole eggs.

You can substitute with pork shoulder, pork belly or mix of three.  Especially, if you’re big fan of pork belly. I just prefer lean meat.  Marinating time is same as the eggs, 4 – 5 hours or overnight.

4. After marinating everything, now it’s time to boil it!

5. Put marinated pork into boil water (~2-3 cup).  Bring it to boil and then add eggs (without sauce)

6. Flavor it up by adding 1 stick of cinnamon, 3-4 star anise, 3-4 garlic cloves, oyster sauce, soy sauce, black pepper, sauce from marinated eggs.  Adjust it according to your desire.

7. When the soup come to boil.  Lower heat to sim it for about an hour. Then it’s now ready to serve, you may garnish the dish with cilantro and then serve with hot white rice.

FYI, this soup you can keep it for up to a week.  The soup get tastier after you keep it for a day or two. BUT who can resist not have it right away!

Ahhh! I’m hungry.  I think I gonna eat it now 🙂
